Worried about somebody else?

You do not need to solve everything. Listening and helping someone reach suitable support can make a real difference.

1

Ask and listen

Ask how they are feeling, listen without judgement and take what they say seriously.

2

Help them make contact

Offer to sit with them while they call their GP, NHS 111 or another support service.

3

Act if there is danger

If somebody’s life is at risk or you cannot keep them safe, call 999 or go to A&E.

You can call for advice too

NHS 111’s mental health option can also help people who are worried about someone else. Samaritans can listen to your worries as well as speaking directly to the person who is struggling.

Information checked 8 August 2026. Service details can change, so check with the organisation before travelling.
