Speeding concerns reported

Residents have reported concerns about speeding cars and a high-powered electric motorbike being ridden recklessly through the village.

The Parish Council believes details of the vehicles involved have been passed to West Yorkshire Police.

Grass verges, hedges and village signs

District councillors have asked for Crofton’s village signs to be cleaned or renewed. Some highway verges and road edges have now been tidied, although a number of routes still require attention.

Other reported concerns include overhanging branches, overgrown hedges that obscure drivers’ views and overflowing litter bins.

Concerns raised about Brand Hill

A resident has raised concerns about drainage ditches overgrown with brambles behind the Brand Hill area.

The area is also said to be attracting vermin. The matter is due to be passed to Wakefield Council.

Two parish councillors stand down

Crofton Parish Council has recorded the resignations of Rob Elson, known locally as “Bob the Litter Picker”, and Simon Bennett.

Simon served as a parish councillor for more than 31 years and was a founder member of The Sidings facility. The council thanked both men for their service to the village.

Crofton Youth Club

The Youth Club is closed during the August holidays and is expected to reopen on Friday 4 September.

Friendship Group

From September, the Friendship Group will meet on Tuesdays instead of Thursdays at Crofton Working Men’s Club, Slack Lane.

Sessions run from 12.30pm until 2pm. Planned dates include 8 September, 6 October and 3 November, followed by a Christmas party on 1 December.

Hare Park allotments

Yorkshire Water reported excessive water use after taps were apparently left running by people who were not allotment holders.

Some spurs will be removed and locks fitted to taps to help reduce unnecessary water use.

Old Library car park

Crofton Parish Council plans to commission a contractor to repaint the car park markings. Visitors are asked to respect the marked disability zones.

Christmas displays

Work is under way to secure Crofton’s Christmas light displays and investigate new lights for the village Christmas tree. Planning for the December switch-on event has also begun.

Parish cemetery plots

Families are asked to keep items within the boundaries of their cremation plots. The council will request the removal of items encroaching on neighbouring plots or appearing to have been abandoned.

West Yorkshire History Centre

The free Wakefield attraction has exhibitions, children’s learning activities, conservation work and public computers offering free access to ancestry resources.
