Meet Katie Harber
Katie has lived in Crofton all her life and attended the village’s secondary school, now known as Crofton Academy. Today, many local residents will recognise her from The Royal Oak, where she works.
Katie is writing a book and has a lasting interest in the stories, memories and details that make Crofton what it is. In this monthly blog, she will explore different parts of the village’s history and share what she discovers along the way.
Welcome to Crofton Through the Years
Crofton is more than the place where we live. Its roads, buildings, pubs, schools and open spaces all carry stories from the people who came before us—and many of those stories are still remembered by people living in the village today.
Having lived in Crofton all my life, I have watched the village change while many familiar parts of it have remained. I went to the local secondary school, now known as Crofton Academy, and I now work at The Royal Oak. Through family stories, conversations with local people and my own research, I have become increasingly interested in Crofton’s past.
I am also writing a book, and this blog will give me the opportunity to share some of the fascinating things I find along the way. Each month I will focus on a different place, person, event or part of village life.
Local history is not only found in official records. It also lives in photographs tucked away in drawers, stories repeated around family tables and memories of shops, buildings and traditions that have since disappeared. I hope this blog helps preserve some of those memories and encourages more people to share their own.
